Hydroseeding

What is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a market leading technique that mixes seed, water, fertiliser and dye (optional), which is then applied over prepared soil using our purpose built Hydroseeder. Hydroseeding promotes rapid establishment of vegetation by ensuring the even distribution of seed and nutrients across the soil surface. This method is highly effective for seeding expansive areas, such as large open pastures, large cut to fill operations or large surfaces into a mining rehabilitation project.

Hydroseeding vs Hydromulching

While hydroseeding and hydromulching sound similar and use the same equipment, they serve different purposes. Hydroseeding focuses on applying seed mixtures to grow vegetation over vast areas quickly, whereas hydromulching incorporates seed and aims at soil stabilisation and erosion control via the mulch component of the application. The difference lies explicitly in the mixture loaded into the hydroseeder; hydromulching uses a thicker slurry with higher concentrations of mulch and seed, whereas hydroseeding contains a more balanced mixture of seeds, water, and fertiliser.

Hydroseeding Applications

Hydroseeding is versatile and can be applied in various scenarios, including:

  • Civil construction projects
  • Mining rehabilitation
  • Land reclamation
  • Residential, commercial, & industrial landscaping
  • Roadside & highway improvement & erosion control

Benefits of Hydroseeding

Hydroseeding offers multiple key benefits, making it a compelling choice for establishing vegetation. These benefits include:

  • Uniform Coverage: Hydroseeding provides a uniform distribution of seed and nutrients across the surface. The hydroseeder ensures even coverage (even on slopes & uneven surfaces), reducing the risk of bare patches and promoting consistent growth.
  • Cost saving: When hydroseeding, we are able to cover vast areas daily (10ha+). In doing so, we are able to offer this application at budget friendly rates.
  • Versatility Across Climates & Soil Types: With the ability to customise seed mixes, hydroseeding effectively supports vegetation growth across various climates and soil types

Hydroseeding with Queensland Revegetation Group

QRG is a team of specialist hydroseeding contractors with one of the largest hydroseeding units in QLD. Because of this, we are able to cover over 10ha of hydroseeding per day. Combining a mixture of water, fertiliser and seed, we can tailor seed species to suit each individual site's requirements. We can also add green dye to the mix so that our clients can visually see the area that has been sprayed. This is the perfect solution for clients with large open areas that need a fast approach to getting seed onto the ground.

FAQs

How much does hydroseeding cost?

At QRG, the cost of our hydroseeding services varies significantly based on factors such as the size of the land and the type of grass seed selected. Reach out to us today to discuss your project and receive a personalised quote for our hydroseeding services.

What areas do you offer hydroseeding services?

We are based in Brisbane but offer our services across North and West NSW as well as QLD. If you’re unsure if we can service your area, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to discuss your project and will work our hardest to accommodate your needs or find a reliable partner who can service your location.

What is a Hydroseeder?

A hydroseeder is a specialised machine used for the application of a mixture of seed, mulch, fertiliser, and water onto soil surfaces. This method is effective for establishing vegetation over large areas quickly and efficiently. At QRG, we have one of the largest hydroseeders in SEQ, enabling us to cover extensive areas promptly and efficiently.

Can Hydroseeder spray something other than grass seed?

Yes, a hydroseeder can spray various materials beyond just grass seed. At QRG, we utilise our state-of-the-art hydroseeder to apply several solutions, including BFM hydromulch, biotic hydromulch, hydrocompost, and polymer ground treatments, among others. This versatility allows us to effectively establish vegetation, enhance soil health, and control erosion across diverse landscapes.

What care is required after hydroseeding?

After hydroseeding, it’s generally important to keep the soil moist and well-watered to maintain optimal germination conditions for the seeds. This typically involves frequent light watering during the initial establishment phase, particularly within the first few weeks. Consistent moisture helps promote seedling growth, as seeds require adequate hydration to germinate effectively.

What time of year is it best for hydroseeding?

Given the climate of North/West NSW and QLD is generally warm, the timing for hydroseeding can be flexible; however, we usually find the best results come from seeds sprayed in the autumn or spring months. This is because these seasons provide optimal soil temperatures and moisture conditions for seed germination.
